​Wild Horses of Placitas

Wild mustangs are an integral part of the heritage of the American West.  These mustangs descended from horses that were brought over by Spanish conquistadors; other breeds have since contributed to the original mustang bloodline. The area in and around placitas nm is home to many of these wild horses.  ​​

                                                                             Our Organization​

In 2003, a loose-knit group of Placitas residents provided feed and water to the wild horses that roamed public and Tribal lands north of Placitas.  In 2015 this group of community members officially organized as 'Placitas WILD', a NM non-profit, tax-exempt, charitable organization under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.  This organization is comprised of a dedicated group of people committed to the care and well-being of wild mustangs in the Placitas area.

Placitas WILD is committed to preserving the spirit of the wild mustang by providing a safe, sustainable environment for a large group of wild mustangs and feral horses, and ensuring the health and well-being of each one throughout its natural life.

It takes a village to provide for the needs of these horses.  We hope that you will join us in our mission.

Placitas WILD has transitioned this large group of horses to a safe haven on private land in Placitas to ensure their health and well-being.  We are committed to providing feed, clean water, a safe and healthy environment, and veterinary care to the horses currently living on the preserve.  Your contributions toward feed, professional care, equipment and supplies (as well as volunteer efforts) to care for these horses and their environment are greatly appreciated.                                                         ​​​​​
